Convert Image to ICO
Turn any image into an ICO file for use as a favicon or Windows icon. The result is a multi-resolution ICO containing 16×16, 32×32, and 48×48 versions, so browsers and Windows pick the right size automatically.

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP or SVG. Up to 50 images, max 50 MB each.
Favicon for websites
ICO is the original favicon format. Drop the file at the root as favicon.ico and every browser picks it up automatically, no HTML link needed.
Multi-resolution in one file
A single ICO can carry 16×16 for tabs, 32×32 for bookmarks, and 48×48 for desktop shortcuts. Browsers select the best size on the fly.
Transparency preserved
ICO supports an alpha channel. Convert a transparent PNG and the transparency stays intact, so the icon blends with any background.
Windows app icons
Windows EXE files use ICO for their visual identity. Useful for developers shipping native Windows software.
How it works
- 1Upload your imageSquare images work best. If your image is not square, the output is centered and padded with transparent pixels.
- 2Click convertWe generate three resolutions (16, 32, 48 pixels) and pack them into a single ICO file. No quality settings needed.
- 3Download your faviconRename to favicon.ico and place at your website root. Browsers will find it automatically.
FAQ
What resolutions does the ICO file contain?
Three: 16×16, 32×32, and 48×48 pixels. These are the sizes browsers and Windows ask for. Each is encoded as PNG inside the ICO container, which is the modern standard.
Should my source image be square?
Ideally yes. Square sources scale cleanly to icon sizes. Non-square sources are centered with transparent padding to fit the square icon canvas.
Will the icon look sharp at small sizes?
Mostly. Detail can be lost at 16×16 because there are only 256 pixels to work with. Simple shapes and bold colors survive better than fine details. Consider designing a separate simplified version if the 16px result looks muddy.
Does this work for Windows desktop application icons?
Yes. The output is a standard multi-resolution ICO file that Windows accepts for EXE icons and shortcuts.
Can I use my ICO on Apple devices?
iOS and macOS prefer PNG-based icons (apple-touch-icon) rather than ICO. Use this for favicon.ico for desktop browsers, then provide PNG variants for Apple devices.
